Research Day 2026: Marine Biology and Biodiversity

On February 19th, the EBI campus hosted the second edition of the Research Day “Marine Biology and Biodiversity”, organized by the student association PLOUF. This day provided an opportunity to highlight the crucial issues of preserving marine ecosystems and marine biotechnology.

Informative conferences on environmental issues and marine biotechnology

The morning was punctuated by captivating conferences on marine environmental challenges, with the participation of renowned specialists such as:

  • Laure Bonnaud Ponticelli from the Natural History Museum
  • Christine Delbarre d’Ifremer,
  • Corinne Bussi-Copin of Génération Mer

The afternoon was dedicated to marine biotechnologies and the sustainable exploitation of ocean microbiodiversity, with:

  • Karim Senni presented marine polysaccharides as new tools for cell therapy,
  • Ghina EL Hage Chehade explored biodegradable bioplastics derived from marine microorganisms, a sustainable alternative for the ecological transition.

Immersive workshops: observing and protecting marine life

The Research Day also offered practical and immersive workshops:

  • Plankton observation with Jeanne Miebach from Plankton Planet and Leila Bouchemha.
  • Inspiring testimonials from Divers of the World, presented by Patricia Hivert and Eric Joncquel.

These experiences allowed students to get closer to marine ecosystems in a concrete way and to understand the importance of their preservation.

To train responsible and committed engineers

A huge thank you to all the speakers and to the PLOUF association, with a special mention for Lise Brault, conductor of this day.

This initiative perfectly illustrates our industrial biology school’s commitment to training responsible engineers capable of combining science, innovation and environmental transition.
