The EBInnov® research unit

Dive into the heart of innovation with EBInnov®, the research unit that shapes the future!

Imagine a place where the boldest ideas come to life, where science and technology meet to revolutionize the bioindustry sectors (agri-food, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology…), with a direct impact on health and the environment.

This place exists, and it is at the heart of the EBI: welcome to EBInnov®, the school’s own research unit at the School of Industrial Biology, which is exceptional for its unique approach, integrating students into its research activities, both fundamental and applied. This immersion allows them to train in research through research, a rare opportunity in the landscape of higher education.

Where science becomes concrete

In a constantly evolving world, developing knowledge and innovating is not a luxury, it is a necessity. EBInnov® aims to establish a bridge between its own research and industrial innovation. Thus, its research activities are connected to the transformations of the bio-industries, particularly to address health and well-being challenges, and to minimize the impact of their activities on the climate, water, resources, and biodiversity. EBInnov® also aims to support student education through research.

Having a research unit within the EBI is a unique opportunity for students to engage in concrete projects, work with cutting-edge technologies, and gain valuable experience that enhances their profile in the job market.

Two strategic research axes to move the bio-industries

The EBInnov® Clean Research Unit is built around two thematic axes, related to the challenges of bio-industries: biotechnology and pharmaceutics.

  • The Biotechnology research axis: here, researchers explore micro-biodiversities and capitalize on biomasses. They design and produce active molecules and biomaterials, or develop new antimicrobial systems to prevent contamination risks. The result is concrete applications in essential fields such as health, cosmetics, and the environment!
  • The Galenic research axis: here, expertise focuses on the design of new ingredients for medicines and cosmetics, as well as their formulation and characterization to achieve technical and sensory objectives. The result: innovative products that are increasingly effective.

EBInnov®, a key player in scientific and technological innovation

  • A modern technological platform: researchers and students have access to equipment in cell culture, molecular biology, microbiology, formulation, analytics, processes, sensory evaluation, and a bioinformatics laboratory.
  • A rich and dynamic scientific ecosystem: EBInnov® is integrated within a collaborative network composed of other research units (ENSAM, CY, USPN, Efrei…), competitiveness clusters (Cosmetic Valley, B4C, Medicen) and partner companies, thus promoting the emergence of innovative projects.
  • A commitment to a sustainable future: research activities are part of a responsible approach, systematically integrating ecological and societal issues.
  • ISO 9001 Certification: guarantee of the highest quality standards

An exceptional asset for its students

EBI stands out by being one of the few engineering schools to have its own research unit. This feature provides a valuable advantage to its students, who have the opportunity to:

  • Contribute to fundamental or applied research projects,
  • Discover experimental technologies that will develop their employability,
  • Benefit from the guidance of teacher-researchers who are experts in their field,

Maëlys Crombez, P31, Research and Application Major: “The 5th-year research project, conducted in teams and independently, proves to be very rewarding in many aspects. It offers the opportunity to concretely apply all the knowledge acquired throughout our course, both on a scientific and managerial level. This allows for valuable confidence-building before starting our final-year internship.”

Thus, EBInnov® constitutes a true engine of innovation for the transformation of bio-industries. By promoting strategic partnerships and leading high-impact projects with its students, the unit establishes itself as a reference in this rapidly evolving field.
